We'd like to thank all of our clients reaching out to us about at-home hair color kits. It means a lot that you are thinking of ways for us to make money at this time. Although we greatly appreciate the effort, at-home hair color kits are not our answer.
In fact, it is actually illegal for any salon to be administering at-home hair color kits in the state of Illinois. We'd like to continue seeing you guys long past quarantine, so we are choosing to do what is right for our business and the industry as a whole. We hope that this actually makes you feel GOOD to know that you visit a salon abiding by the law.
The illegality of at-home hair color kits is for a reason. As your hairdressers, we have all completed 1500 hours of cosmetology school and continue to receive ongoing education. It is important to make sure that you are staying safe. A Youtube video is not going to equate to 1500+ hours of education. Safely applying hair color is something that we have learned through hours of practice on MANNEQUIN heads; we did this for months before actually applying color on any human. We want to make sure your scalp, face, and body remain just as they are- safe and sound.
Also, at Steven Papageorge Salon, almost all of our stylists choose to examine your hair before mixing any hair color. This is because hair color is always pulling differently due to various things such as sunlight exposure, hair products you're using at home, and just chemistry as a whole. Believe it or not, we frequently change the formula slightly. The same formula each and every time would actually result in different hair colors throughout your head- wild, we know!
More so, if you've paid thousands of dollars on your bathroom, and any part of it happens to be porous, the hair color will seep in and stain it. At the salon, we use black shampoo bowls that are made for the purpose of hair color constantly washing over them. Can this be said about the bathroom fixtures in your home?
We know that this temporary solution may have seemed like a great idea at first, but we hope you can now see why waiting for Steven Papageorge Salon to reopen is the real answer. We are looking out for your benefit as a whole. Remember, this too shall pass, and we will be able to professionally apply your hair color soon. We LOVE you!
