Everyone is always wanting to keep their hair healthy. Many people think that hair health is all about split ends, but, while this has a lot to do with hair health, the first part of keeping your hair healthy is keeping your scalp healthy! Scalp health is finally becoming a main-stream concept, but we've been talking about it for years! So, what is the main step to keeping your scalp healthy? Washing it when it needs to be washed with the right shampoo!
Washing your hair when it needs to be washed may seem obvious enough, but, with so much information on the internet, we have found that our clients are confused more now than ever. Everybody's body is different, and that is why we cannot give a specific amount of time to wait before shampooing that is right for everyone. If any article out there does give you this, you need to close that tab immediately! The truth is that you need to listen to your body.
Tomorrow morning, give your hair a good, healthy scrub with shampoo in the shower. Put whatever products you normally use to style your hair in it, and then go on with your day. Now, watch it until you notice the first sign of an oily scalp. When we say the first sign of grease, we truly mean the first sign! This means that your scalp needs washing (actual washing, no dry shampoo) before the oil accumulates and starts to clog your hair follicles. Did it happen the very next day? Then your hair needs to be washed daily. Did it happen a week later? Then your scalp only needs to be shampooed once a week. Everybody's scalp and hair truly is different, and that is a beautiful thing!
Many people who only need to shampoo every once in a while may even notice that their hair looks better a few days after shampooing. This is because, though their hair is not oily yet, their hair is not perfectly clean either. This almost substitutes as hair product, but it’s made from the person’s body! This could help tame any frizz they may have and could help flatten any volume they may find excessive. For people that need to wash their hair every day, their hair will look the best the day they shampoo. If they forget to wash their hair one day, it may appear flat and even wet from excessive oil. Your hair's beauty is actually telling you a lot about it's needs!
In addition to shampooing when necessary, it's also important to use a high-quality shampoo. Your hairstylist is the best person to listen to for a recommendation for this. They are not just selling beauty products to mass consumers all day. Instead, they are literally working on your hair and then recommending a product based off of this; they are recommending it for your specific hair needs. Sometimes, these hair needs change over time and through different seasons. Your hair dresser will always tell you what your hair is needing at that given moment. Make sure to ask your Steven Papageorge Salon hairstylist what shampoo is right for you next time you are in!
Shampooing your hair when it needs it, with the right products, truly is the most important thing you could be doing for your scalp. By keeping your scalp clean, you are encouraging healthy hair growth. Believe it or not, if you start shampooing your hair at the first sign of oil, and consistently do this, you may even start to see some new hair growth! Hair loves a clean, healthy scalp, and so do we!
